When furnishing a bedroom, many Pennsylvanian homeowners realize that they have much less space than they expected. Having a smaller bedroom means you have to be particular about what furniture goes in the room and where it is placed so that you can make the most of your space.  Luckily, King’s Impressions offers numerous furniture collections featuring pieces designed to fit into small spaces. Here are some of our best furniture options for limited spaces, which would work great to maximize space in a small bedroom.

The Best Ways to Maximize Space

Keep it Minimal

A minimalist design is better for smaller bedrooms as it will make the space feel less cluttered and appear larger. Have only the essential furniture you need inside the bedroom. Each piece you have should serve a purpose and be functional in the space. To create a minimal, relaxing environment, we recommend using a simple color palette. You don’t have to use neutral colors,  but use a refined palette with a few main colors so your room is not overwhelming.

Optimize Your Closet Space

In our experience, having smart clothing storage in your closet can create more space in the main bedroom. If you have a larger closet, you can put some clothing storage furniture pieces, like a dresser or chest of drawers, inside it for a designated dressing area. If you don’t have enough space to fit in furniture, use slim hangers, hanging shelves, and storage boxes to increase your closet storage capabilities. Below is a before-and-after image from Shades of Blue Interiors on how they organized their closet to declutter their space.

Use Your Wall Space

Utilizing your wall space will keep your floors as clear as possible, making your room look bigger. Use taller furniture pieces that take up more wall space, and use shelves and cabinets for extra wall storage. Wall-mounted shelves are good places to store your belongings and will give the illusion of a more spacious room.

Mirrors and Jewelry Storage

Using mirrors in your bedroom helps make the space look and feel larger. We’ve found that placing mirrors across from a window allows natural light to reflect off them, giving the illusion of a bigger and brighter space. You can maximize the space a standing mirror takes up even more by doubling it as jewelry storage. King’s Impressions has many mirrors with hidden jewelry compartments that will match any bedroom’s style.

Beds:

Beds with Drawer Storage

barn door bed with underbed drawer storage, maximize space in a small bedroom

Having a bed with drawer storage underneath makes the best use of your space, especially if it is placed by a wall or window. They allow you to have additional storage for your clothes or linens. Our Panel Bed and Hamilton Bed both have underbed drawer storage. Our Bookcase Barn Door Track Bed also has underbed storage, but it also has a bookcase within the headboard to put your phone, water, and any other essentials you would put on your nightstand. This bed serves multiple purposes and is a great option if you don’t have enough space for a nightstand.

Bunk Beds

Great for accommodating multiple sleepers, bunk beds are a good option for children’s and guest rooms with limited space. King’s Impressions bunk beds blend safety, practicality, and style while making good use of the bedroom’s vertical space. We have a Bookcase Bunk Bed for a little bit of extra storage, a great substitute for a nightstand. Our Miller’s Mission Bunk Bed has a step unit with storage drawers to expand your storage space in your child’s or guest room.

Storage:

Bookshelves

Using any kind of bookshelves will increase your vertical space usage. Bookshelves are great pieces for displaying your books and tzochkies, and many of them have cabinets underneath for additional storage in your bedroom. Your bookshelf will let your belongings double as decorations, adding your personal touch to your room. Our Artesa Bookcase with Doors has four shelves to display your belongings and a cabinet underneath for extra storage. If you need a smaller bookcase, our 24”x72” Bookcase has a compact design to fit into a smaller room.

Compact Nightstands

We have many nightstand options for your bedroom, and some of them come in a compact size to accommodate smaller spaces. Your nightstand just needs enough space to hold your necessities, like water, a phone charger, and a lamp. Our Boulder Creek Three Drawer, Heidi Three Drawer, and Houston Three Drawer Nightstands all have compact sizes available and pair perfectly with any bed style. Our Sonora One Drawer Open Nightstand is designed for smaller spaces and has an open shelf inside for additional storage.

Chests of Drawers

A chest of drawers utilizes more vertical space instead of horizontal space. They provide lots of clothing storage that won’t take up as much floor space as a dresser. Our Claremont Eight Drawer Hi-Boy makes the most of your floor space and offers a lot of drawer space for your clothes. The Sonora Seven Drawer Lingerie is a great piece to organize smaller clothing items, and will snugly fit in your closet.
